Nidiffer Captures MMBA Title

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

Craig Nidiffer of Monroe won his fourth Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 242-213 victory over Chris Steward of Clawson at Galaxy Lanes in Grand Blanc. Nidiffer took home $1,000 and Steward $600 for their efforts.

Nidiffer qualified fifth for the stepladder finals and proceeded to beat Jordan Born of White Lake 255-191, Jeff Roche of Dearborn 246-228 and Rick Schultz of Warren 245-233 en route to the championship match.

Steward, bowling in only his second MMBA tournament, was the top seed for the stepladder finals.

Schultz cashed for $500, Roche $400 and Born $300.

Other Oakland County cashers were Nick Cooper of Clarkston $220 in scholarship, Justin Crosby of Holly $170, Greg Gumtow of South Lyon $130 and Kelley Bennett of Oxford $110.

GAVIE RESULTS

The results of the 75th Annual Gavie Tournament held at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park have been announced with some local bowlers on the various winning teams.

The event is the largest one-day tournament with 30 teams competing in the afternoon in the Senior Division and 90 teams in the evening in the Open and Women’s Divisions.

Topping the Open Division was the Red Robin #1 team with a score of 3,567. Joining team captain Lew Ansara of Farmington Hills were team members Ken Kossick of Commerce Township, Chris Nielson of Livonia, Kevin Trumbull of Romulus, Steve Mrakitsch of Howell and Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights. Second and third place spots were held down by the We Strike A Lot team with 3,520 and Ace Mitchell Bowler’s Mart with 3,472.

In the Women’s Division Cidney’s Crew ran away from the field with a handicap total of 3,555. Members of the team were Tamika Glenn of Belleville, Mickey Webb of Detroit, Tempel Johnson of Southfield, Kara Ryan of Brooklyn and Adrienne Mallory of Detroit. Talya’s 5 with 3,339 and That’s What’s Up with 3,291 were second and third respectively.

Pacing the Senior Division was the Thunderbowl Seniors team with a handicap total of 3,443. Mike Coleman of Detroit, Bobby Sims of Detroit, Elijah Thompson of Southgate, Art McCullough of Detroit and Gary Tis of Detroit contributed to the win. Second and third place were Roland’s Bowling (3,380) and Hi-Tech Pro Shop (3,379).

The annual Gavie Tournament is held the third Monday of August at Thunderbowl Lanes and is the official kick-off to bowling in the Bowling Capital of the World.
