BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS
Craig Nidiffer of Monroe won his third Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a best three out of five win over Randy Warnken of Clinton Township in the Match Game Championship at Parkway Lanes in Trenton.
En route to the championship match Nidiffer defeated Brian Newcomb of Romulus, Mike Chism of Farmington Hills and Jeff Hicks of Allen Park. Nidiffer took home the top prize of $1,500.
Warnken’s road to the finals included wins over Mason Brantley of Detroit, Troy Stus of South Lyon and Doug Evans of Gibraltar. Warnken settled for $800.
Terry Haines of Westland was the top qualifier with a six-game qualifying score of 1,518, an average of 253. He lost his first match and took home $275.
“I thought it was all over after the third game.”, said champion Nidiffer. “I made a ball change and it all worked out. This is the greatest thing to happen to me so far in my career. To win a Major title is the best.”
Oakland County cashers were Chism for $375 and Stus for $375.
The next MMBA event will be April 23 at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth.

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Larry Walker of Garden City won the National Senior Bowling Association tournament at Bowl One Lanes in Troy with an overtime 50-39 rolloff over Ross Beers of Saginaw after the two tied at 246.
Walker qualified second and proceeded to defeat Keven King of Sterling Heights 234-207, Dan Mayer of Waterford Township 268-225 and Mike Abbey of Jackson 270-227 on his way to the final match. Walker received $1,000 for the win.
Beers qualified fourth. In match play he beat Mike McCleskey of Southfield 264-258, Steve Scherle of Canada 235-233 and Key Wyatt of Sterling Heights 258-237. Beers settled for $500.
McCleskey recorded the top game of the competition with 299 and the top qualifier was Wyatt.
Local bowlers who cased were Mayer for $150, McCleskey $115, Mike LaRocca of New Hudson $115, Ken Kossick of Commerce Township $100 and Jerry Owczarski of South Lyon $70.
The next NSBA tournament will be April 9 at Westland Bowl in Westland.

Sue Szachta wins MDUSBC Senior Queens

MDUSBC SENIOR QUEENS
Susan Szachta of Warren won the Metro Detroit USBC Association Senior Queens on Sunday with a 225-212 triumph over Gwendolyn Finley of Detroit at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights.
Szachta was the fourth qualifier for the stepladder finals with a four-game total of 768 on games of 188-204-214-162. Szachta took home the top prize of $200.
Finley was the top qualifier for the stepladder finals with 835. Finley settled for $150.
En route to the finals Szachta beat Sheila Temple of Romulus 216-201 and Kim Baldwin of Redford 245-196. Temple took home $125 and Baldwin $100 for their efforts.
This was the fourth year of the MDUSBC Senior Queens. Initial qualifying was done by senior women 50 years of age and older with their actual all-events of the recently completed MDUSBC Women’s Championship. The top bowlers advanced to the qualifying finals.
Other cashers were Denise Gunter of Ferndale who took home $75 and Karen Whitmore of Detroit $75.

Matt Randall of Allen Park won his fourth Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 249-167 victory over Abed Daher of Brownstown at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights.
Randall qualified second and beat Branden Dale of St. Clair Shores 247-216 en route to the championship match. Randall took home the top prize of $1,200.
“This should buy a lot of diapers”, said Randall, whose wife Lee Ann is expecting in May.
Daher was the top qualifier for the stepladder finals with a nine-game total of 2,158 and settled for the second place of $700.
The stepladder finals began with Dale beating Harry Sullins of Chesterfield 205-195 and Randy Warnken of Clinton Township 207-182. Dale cashed for $600, Warnken $500 and Sullins $400.
Sullins led the 91 competitors with a six-game total of 1,478 in qualifying.
Mitch Jabczenski of Novi cashed for $155 and Mike McCleskey of Southfield $105 led the Oakland County contingent.
The next MMBA event will be March 19-20 at Parkway Lanes in Trenton for the Match Game Championship.

Kurt qualified 27th. In match play he beat Rick Eiermann of Garden City 214-171, George Humphry of Grosse Pointe Farms 217-203, Joe Krajenke of Clinton Township 224-216 and Rick Schultz of Warren 215-169. Kurt cashed for $500.

MDUSBC SENIOR QUEENS
Susan Szachta of Warren won the Metro Detroit USBC Association Senior Queens on Sunday with a 225-212 triumph over Gwendolyn Finley of Detroit at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights.
Szachta was the fourth qualifier for the stepladder finals with a four-game total of 768 on games of 188-204-214-162. Szachta took home the top prize of $200.
Finley was the top qualifier for the stepladder finals with 835. Finley settled for $150.
En route to the finals Szachta beat Sheila Temple of Romulus 216-201 and Kim Baldwin of Redford 245-196. Temple took home $125 and Baldwin $100 for their efforts.
This was the fourth year of the MDUSBC Senior Queens. Initial qualifying was done by senior women 50 years of age and older with their actual all-events of the recently completed MDUSBC Women’s Championship. The top bowlers advanced to the qualifying finals.
Other cashers were Denise Gunter of Ferndale who took home $75 and Karen Whitmore of Detroit $75.

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS
Matt Randall of Allen Park won his fourth Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 249-167 victory over Abed Daher of Brownstown at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights.
Randall qualified second and beat Branden Dale of St. Clair Shores 247-216 en route to the championship match. Randall took home the top prize of $1,200.
“This should buy a lot of diapers”, said Randall, whose wife Lee Ann is expecting in May.
Daher was the top qualifier for the stepladder finals with a nine-game total of 2,158 and settled for the second place of $700.
The stepladder finals began with Dale beating Harry Sullins of Chesterfield 205-195 and Randy Warnken of Clinton Township 207-182. Dale cashed for $600, Warnken $500 and Sullins $400.
Sullins led the 91 competitors with a six-game total of 1,478 in qualifying.
Mitch Jabczenski of Novi cashed for $155 and Mike McCleskey of Southfield $105 led the Oakland County contingent.
The next MMBA event will be March 19-20 at Parkway Lanes in Trenton for the Match Game Championship.

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights captured his first National Senior Bowling Association title with a 257-216 triumph over Richard Kurt of St. Clair Shores at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights.
Wyatt was the top qualifier and beat Ken Kossick of Commerce Township 204-144, Mike Chapman of Garden City 234-172 and Tony Stipcak of Redford 246-210 on his way to the championship match. Wyatt took home the top prize of $1,000.
Kurt qualified 27th. In match play he beat Rick Eiermann of Garden City 214-171, George Humphry of Grosse Pointe Farms 217-203, Joe Krajenke of Clinton Township 224-216 and Rick Schultz of Warren 215-169. Kurt cashed for $500.
Top seniors from Oakland County were Bill Haynes of Rochester Hills for $130, Kevin Scott of Ferndale $130, Kossick $130, Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield $100, Mike McCleskey of Southfield $100, Ed Peart of Southfield $100, Tim Haesler of Commerce Township $100, Ed Austreng of Waterford Township $70, Rod Harling of Oak Park $70 and Ken O’Brien of Troy $70.

Matt Randall Wins MMBA Event

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS
Matt Randall of Allen Park won his fourth Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 249-167 victory over Abed Daher of Brownstown at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights.
Randall qualified second and beat Branden Dale of St. Clair Shores 247-216 en route to the championship match. Randall took home the top prize of $1,200.
“This should buy a lot of diapers”, said Randall, whose wife Lee Ann is expecting in May.
Daher was the top qualifier for the stepladder finals with a nine-game total of 2,158 and settled for the second place of $700.
The stepladder finals began with Dale beating Harry Sullins of Chesterfield 205-195 and Randy Warnken of Clinton Township 207-182. Dale cashed for $600, Warnken $500 and Sullins $400.
Sullins led the 91 competitors with a six-game total of 1,478 in qualifying.
Mitch Jabczenski of Novi cashed for $155 and Mike McCleskey of Southfield $105 led the Oakland County contingent.
The next MMBA event will be March 19-20 at Parkway Lanes in Trenton for the Match Game Championship.

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights captured his first National Senior Bowling Association title with a 257-216 triumph over Richard Kurt of St. Clair Shores at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights.
Wyatt was the top qualifier and beat Ken Kossick of Commerce Township 204-144, Mike Chapman of Garden City 234-172 and Tony Stipcak of Redford 246-210 on his way to the championship match. Wyatt took home the top prize of $1,000.
Kurt qualified 27th. In match play he beat Rick Eiermann of Garden City 214-171, George Humphry of Grosse Pointe Farms 217-203, Joe Krajenke of Clinton Township 224-216 and Rick Schultz of Warren 215-169. Kurt cashed for $500.

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights captured his first National Senior Bowling Association title with a 257-216 triumph over Richard Kurt of St. Clair Shores at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights.
Wyatt was the top qualifier and beat Ken Kossick of Commerce Township 204-144, Mike Chapman of Garden City 234-172 and Tony Stipcak of Redford 246-210 on his way to the championship match. Wyatt took home the top prize of $1,000.
Kurt qualified 27th. In match play he beat Rick Eiermann of Garden City 214-171, George Humphry of Grosse Pointe Farms 217-203, Joe Krajenke of Clinton Township 224-216 and Rick Schultz of Warren 215-169. Kurt cashed for $500.

MDUSBC SENIOR MASTERS
Rick Vittone of Tecumseh, Ontario came back in style after losing his first match in the finals to defeat Albert Amella III of Macomb 469-466 in the two-game match, winning the MDUSBC Senior Masters title at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park and taking home the top prize of $3,000.
After qualifying 15th with a six-game total of 1,371, Vittone remained in the winner’s bracket with triumphs over Thomas Byrd of Clinton Township 472-436, Jim Lauricella of Sterling Heights 445-421, Edward Flowers of West Bloomfield 466-393, Ernest Segura Jr. of Taylor 414-389 and Amella the first time 441-416. Once Amella advanced out of the loser’s bracket he beat Vittone 472-456 setting up the championship match.
In the championship match Amella surged out to an 89-pin lead over Vittone after one game 279-190. Vittone began the last game with the first nine strikes, while Amella was going at a 200 pace. When Vittone failed to strike in the tenth frame he finished with 279. This forced Amella to throw two strikes in the tenth frame. Amella got the first strike, but couldn’t get the second making Vittone the winner.
Vittone averaged 226.7 for 20 games of competition.
“I can’t believe it. Being that far down I just kept throwing strikes.” said Vittone. “I didn’t even realize I’d won until I was adding up the scores on the recap sheet.”
Amella qualified 24th with 1,346. In match play he remained undefeated with victories over defending champion Richard Planko of Novi 426-375, Harold Sullins of Chesterfield 514-403, Gary Pawlak of Flat Rock 482-468 and Leonard Cianciolo of Warren 462-445 before falling to Vittone 441-416. In the loser’s bracket he knocked Paul Kwiecien of Lansing out of the competition 477-472 with an exciting finish to set up the rematch with Vittone. He beat Vittone 472-456, but came up short in the final match 469-466. Amella settled for $1,500.
Kwiecien qualified 30th with 1,328. In match play he beat Mike Lee of Dearborn Heights 424-392 and Tony Stipcak of Redford 472-455 before falling to Ernest Segura Jr. 473-443. In the loser’s bracket he rebounded with wins over Harold Sullins 478-449, Edward Flowers 393-370 and Leonard Cianciolo 524-369 before avenging his loss to Segura 444-393 and finally getting knocked out by Amella 477-472. Kwiecien averaged 226.2 and cashed for $1,000.
Segura qualified 27th with 1,339 and remained in the winner’s bracket with victories over David Tulak of Taylor 448-386, Gerald Johnson of Riverview 480-479 and Kwiecien 473-443 before falling into the loser’s bracket with a loss to Vittone 414-389. In the loser’s bracket he beat Richard Wayne of Westland 502-394 before getting knocked out by Kwiecien 444-393. He averaged 223.6 and took home $750.
Cianciolo finished fifth for $500 and averaged 223.9.
Wayne ended up sixth, picking up $500 after averaging 222.7.
Lee finished seventh, averaged 222.8 and cashed for $400.
Flowers took home $400 for his eighth place finish, averaging 207.1.
Roy Sonier of Southgate won the Super Senior competition for non-qualifiers 60 years of age and over. He defeated Edwin Austreng of Waterford Township 239-204 for the title. He won $200 for his efforts and Austreng walked away with a check for $175.

MDUSBC SENIOR MASTERS
Rick Vittone of Tecumseh, Ontario came back in style after losing his first match in the finals to defeat Albert Amella III of Macomb 469-466 in the two-game match, winning the MDUSBC Senior Masters title at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park and taking home the top prize of $3,000.
After qualifying 15th with a six-game total of 1,371, Vittone remained in the winner’s bracket with triumphs over Thomas Byrd of Clinton Township 472-436, Jim Lauricella of Sterling Heights 445-421, Edward Flowers of West Bloomfield 466-393, Ernest Segura Jr. of Taylor 414-389 and Amella the first time 441-416. Once Amella advanced out of the loser’s bracket he beat Vittone 472-456 setting up the championship match.
In the championship match Amella surged out to an 89-pin lead over Vittone after one game 279-190. Vittone began the last game with the first nine strikes, while Amella was going at a 200 pace. When Vittone failed to strike in the tenth frame he finished with 279. This forced Amella to throw two strikes in the tenth frame. Amella got the first strike, but couldn’t get the second making Vittone the winner.
Vittone averaged 226.7 for 20 games of competition.
“I can’t believe it. Being that far down I just kept throwing strikes.” said Vittone. “I didn’t even realize I’d won until I was adding up the scores on the recap sheet.”
Amella qualified 24th with 1,346. In match play he remained undefeated with victories over defending champion Richard Planko of Novi 426-375, Harold Sullins of Chesterfield 514-403, Gary Pawlak of Flat Rock 482-468 and Leonard Cianciolo of Warren 462-445 before falling to Vittone 441-416. In the loser’s bracket he knocked Paul Kwiecien of Lansing out of the competition 477-472 with an exciting finish to set up the rematch with Vittone. He beat Vittone 472-456, but came up short in the final match 469-466. Amella settled for $1,500.
Kwiecien qualified 30th with 1,328. In match play he beat Mike Lee of Dearborn Heights 424-392 and Tony Stipcak of Redford 472-455 before falling to Ernest Segura Jr. 473-443. In the loser’s bracket he rebounded with wins over Harold Sullins 478-449, Edward Flowers 393-370 and Leonard Cianciolo 524-369 before avenging his loss to Segura 444-393 and finally getting knocked out by Amella 477-472. Kwiecien averaged 226.2 and cashed for $1,000.
Segura qualified 27th with 1,339 and remained in the winner’s bracket with victories over David Tulak of Taylor 448-386, Gerald Johnson of Riverview 480-479 and Kwiecien 473-443 before falling into the loser’s bracket with a loss to Vittone 414-389. In the loser’s bracket he beat Richard Wayne of Westland 502-394 before getting knocked out by Kwiecien 444-393. He averaged 223.6 and took home $750.
Cianciolo finished fifth for $500 and averaged 223.9.
Wayne ended up sixth, picking up $500 after averaging 222.7.
Lee finished seventh, averaged 222.8 and cashed for $400.
Flowers took home $400 for his eighth place finish, averaging 207.1.
Roy Sonier of Southgate won the Super Senior competition for non-qualifiers 60 years of age and over. He defeated Edwin Austreng of Waterford Township 239-204 for the title. He won $200 for his efforts and Austreng walked away with a check for $175.
Other Oakland County seniors who cashed were Michael McCleskey of Southfield for $250, Mark Hatchigian of Novi $225, Roderick Bryant of Oak Park $200, Richard Planko of Novi $200, John Bennett of Clarkston $120, Joseph Bilicki of Lake Orion $120, David Eatmon of Ferndale $120, Dale Barger of Holly $120, Lee Snow of Wixom $120 and Jeffrey Suma Sr. of Auburn Hills $120.
