NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Dave Tulak of Taylor won the Holiday Classic of the National Senior Bowling Association with a 247-236 victory over Ken Kossick of Commerce at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights.
Tulak qualified second. In match play he defeated Carl Wilson of Temperance 289-209, Rick Parschen of Strongsville, Ohio 214-205, Gerald Johnson of Riverview 245-213 and John Thomasma of Kalamazoo 256-194 on his way to the championship match. Tulak cashed for $1,200.
Kossick qualified ninth. In his first match he tied Nick Beelaard of Canada with 206 apiece, but Kossick prevailed in the tie breaker 30-26. His other matches included wins over Steve Scherle of Canada 257-182, Robert Michaux Jr. of Detroit 266-178 and Tony Stipcak of Redford 236-211. Kossick earned $600.
Larry Walker of Garden City was the top qualifier and also recorded the top game with 300. He ended cashing for $250.
Oakland County cashers included Mike LaRocca of New Hudson for $350, Bill Haynes of Rochester Hills $250, Kevin Scott of Ferndale $150 and Mike McCleskey of Southfield $150.
The next NSBA event will be Jan. 14 at Five Star Lanes in Sterling Heights.

Chamberlain Wins MMBA Tournament of Champions

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS
Bob Chamberlain Jr. of Holly won his second Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 209-167 victory over Dale Hofmeister of Essexville in the Tournament of Champions at Taylor Lanes in Taylor.
Chamberlain qualified second for the stepladder finals with a 10-game total of 2,447 in the high scoring event. He beat Chris Kliczenski of Pinckney 258-227 to advance to the championship match. He took home $1,200 for his efforts.
Hofmeister was the top seed for the stepladder with 2,630, a record-setting average of 263. He earned $600 for his second place finish.
“I just felt good all day. What a thrill.” exclaimed Chamberlain. “This is one tournament that I have won, that my father hasn’t. I can hardly wait to call him.”
Chamberlain Sr. is a member of the MMBA Hall of Fame.
Earlier in the stepladder finals Justin Crosby of Holly defeated Mason Brantley of Detroit 257-233, before falling to Kliczenski 210-197. Kliczenski cashed for $500, Crosby $400 and Brantley $300.
The only other Oakland County casher was Troy Stus of South Lyon for $200.

MDUSBC WOMENS SERIES
Erin Williams of Warren won the second Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) Rip 10 Entertainment Women’s Series event, sponsored by Blumark, on Sunday with a 257-194 triumph over Lisa Bishop of Belleville at Van Dyke Bowl in Utica. Williams took home the top prize of $500, while Bishop settled for $250.
Williams qualified ninth in the field of 56 with a four-game total of 862. Her qualifying total included a final game of 256.
Once in match play she dispatched Sara Litteral of Eastpointe 300-227, top qualifier Julie Oczepek of Reese 234-159 and Felicia DeMyers of Lansing 190-153 en route to the championship match.
Bishop qualified seventh with 888. Her victories in match play included wins over Addileen Pointer of Highland 247-167, Jodi Woessner of Oregon, Ohio 227-214 and Christine Wissinger of Clinton Township 227-223.
Oczepek was the top qualifier with 946 and leads the Blumark cup standings with 196 points after winning the inaugural event.

Niedermeyer Wins 500 Club Tournament

MDUSBC 500 CLUB
Crystal Niedermeyer of Plymouth won the Metro Detroit USBC Association 500 Club Tournament at Classic Lanes in Rochester Hills with a handicap score of 778.
The 186 average Niedermeyer shot games of 235, 194 and 244 for an actual series of 673. Coupled with 105 pins handicap she easily topped second place Jennifer Kitchen of Waterford Township by 25 pins. Niedermeyer took home $200 for her victory, while Kitchen settled for $170.
Other top cashers were defending champion Ronda Gross of Pontiac (733, $140); April Groggins of Ferndale (732, $100); Tanya Hubbard of Bloomfield Hills (727, $90); Papillon Spinks of Sterling Heights (726, $80); Pamela Murdock of Sterling Heights (722, $60); Kristine Sowders of Novi (720, $50); Jessica Skinner of Macomb (719, $40); and Kimberly Landon of Redford (713, $40).
Christine Wissinger of Clinton Township shot the highest game of the event with 258.

Churchill Wins MDUSBC Queens

MDUSBC QUEENS
Jennifer Churchill of Windsor won the Metro Detroit USBC Association Queens title on Sunday with a 245-171 triumph over Jennifer Bator of Warren at Mayflower Lanes in Redford.
Churchill qualified 11th with a six-game total of 1,272 on games of 223-205-187-229-239-189. In match play she defeated Erica Ewald of Sterling Heights 220-207, Michelle Ewald of Clinton Township 204-202 and Melissa Klug of Macomb in a two-frame rolloff 39-28 after tying with 202 en route to the championship match. She averaged 214.3 for 10 games of tournament competition.
Bator qualified ninth with 1,287 on games of 158-236-186-203-237-267. She beat 2007 champion Novella Daniels of Detroit 211-200, top qualifier Sara Litteral of Eastpointe 244-225 and 2010 runner-up Nicole Edwards of Sterling Heights 205-203 on her way to the final match. She averaged 211.8.
Top qualifier Sara Litteral shot 1,462 including games of 279-229-257-247-238-212. She finished fifth for $100.
Churchill took home the top check of $900 plus a tiara pendent necklace compliments of Chinn Jewelry. Bator settled for $450.
Defending champion Aleksandra Hudak of Taylor finished just out of the money in 18th place.

MDUSBC QUEENS
Jennifer Churchill of Windsor won the Metro Detroit USBC Association Queens title on Sunday with a 245-171 triumph over Jennifer Bator of Warren at Mayflower Lanes in Redford.
Churchill qualified 11th with a six-game total of 1,272 on games of 223-205-187-229-239-189. In match play she defeated Erica Ewald of Sterling Heights 220-207, Michelle Ewald of Clinton Township 204-202 and Melissa Klug of Macomb in a two-frame rolloff 39-28 after tying with 202 en route to the championship match. She averaged 214.3 for 10 games of tournament competition.
Bator qualified ninth with 1,287 on games of 158-236-186-203-237-267. She beat 2007 champion Novella Daniels of Detroit 211-200, top qualifier Sara Litteral of Eastpointe 244-225 and 2010 runner-up Nicole Edwards of Sterling Heights 205-203 on her way to the final match. She averaged 211.8.
Top qualifier Sara Litteral shot 1,462 including games of 279-229-257-247-238-212. She finished fifth for $100.
Churchill took home the top check of $900 plus a tiara pendent necklace compliments of Chinn Jewelry. Bator settled for $450.
Defending champion Aleksandra Hudak of Taylor finished just out of the money in 18th place.

Walker Wins MMBA Championship

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS
Larry Walker of Garden City won the 44th Budweiser Michigan Majors Championship at Cherry Hill Lanes in Dearborn Heights with a 225-210 victory over defending champion Aaron Lorincz of Saginaw.
Walker took home the top prize of $1,500 after qualifying second and defeating Ken Wyatt of Sterling Heights 300-258 to advance to the final match.
Lorincz was the top qualifier to the stepladder finals with a six-game record of 1,560, an average of 260 on games of 267, 213, 277, 255, 300 and 248. He received $750 for his efforts.
“This was huge, the most rewarding win I have had.” said Walker. “I will be 55 next week and I never thought I was going to win again against these talented young kids.” This was Walker’s ninth MMBA title and the third time he’d won the Championship Tournament.
“This was exciting to almost win back-to-back Championship Tournaments.” said Lorincz. “I want a rematch.”
The stepladder finals began with Anthony Hargar of Flint beating Dan Folkes of Belleville 243-207 and Wyatt narrowly defeating Hargar 227-226.
Wyatt cashed for $650, Hargar $550 and Folkes $450.
Bob Chamberlain Jr. of Holly was the only local casher for $300 for his sixth place finish.
The next MMBA event will be the Tournament of Champions on Dec. 17 at Taylor Lanes in Taylor.

Capaldi Captures NSBA Title

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Rick Capaldi of Canton won the National Senior Bowling Association event at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth with a 214-204 triumph over Dennis Korkoske of East Lansing.
Capaldi took home the top check of $1,000. He qualified third and proceeded to beat Dick Selgo of Archbold, Ohio 247-235, Larry Walker of Garden City 245-222 and Larry Franz of Redford 195-192 en route to the championship match.
Korkoske qualified 12th. In match play he defeated Steve Sears of Michigan Center 225-220, Greg Cohen of Livonia 247-236 and Dave Forfitt of Canada 269-209. Korkoske cashed for $500.
The top game in the competition was recorded by John Thomasma of Kalamazoo with 300. Mike McCleskey of Southfield was the top qualifier.
Local seniors who fared well were Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield for $150, McCleskey $100 and Ken Kossick of Commerce Township $100.
The next NSBA event will be the “Holiday Tournament” on Dec. 10 at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights.

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Rick Capaldi of Canton won the National Senior Bowling Association event at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth with a 214-204 triumph over Dennis Korkoske of East Lansing.
Capaldi took home the top check of $1,000. He qualified third and proceeded to beat Dick Selgo of Archbold, Ohio 247-235, Larry Walker of Garden City 245-222 and Larry Franz of Redford 195-192 en route to the championship match.
Korkoske qualified 12th. In match play he defeated Steve Sears of Michigan Center 225-220, Greg Cohen of Livonia 247-236 and Dave Forfitt of Canada 269-209. Korkoske cashed for $500.
The top game in the competition was recorded by John Thomasma of Kalamazoo with 300. Mike McCleskey of Southfield was the top qualifier.
Local seniors who fared well were Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield for $150, McCleskey $100 and Ken Kossick of Commerce Township $100.
The next NSBA event will be the “Holiday Tournament” on Dec. 10 at Astro Lanes in Madison Heights.

Fryer Wins MDUSBC Super Senior Masters Event

MDUSBC SUPER SENIOR MASTERS
John Fryer of Washington won the MDUSBC Super Senior Masters title and the top prize of $1,000 at Van Dyke Bowl in Sterling Heights a 204-198 triumph over Rick Capaldi of Canton. Capaldi settled for $500.
Fryer qualified 11th with 1,060 and beat Nick Beelaard of Windsor 204-198, Phil Horowitz of West Bloomfield 202-195 and Jim Lauricella of Sterling Heights 215-209 before getting knocked to the loser’s bracket by Capaldi 215-191. In the loser’s bracket he beat Scantamburlo 215-203 to avenge the earlier defeat. He then beat Capaldi 237-168 to force the overtime match. He averaged 210.7 for 12 games of competition.
Capaldi qualified fifth with a five-game total of 1,120. He remained in the winner’s bracket with victories over Richard Walczak of Flat Rock 193-176, David Bernhardt Sr. of Romeo 213-206, Leo Scantamburlo of Riverview 206-196 and Fryer 215-191 before falling to Fryer 237-168 to force the overtime match. He averaged 210.3 for the competition.
Scantamburlo finished third for $400 and Lauricella fourth for $300.
Scantamburlo qualified ninth with 1,072 and averaged 221.5 for 11 games of competition. In match play he remained in the winner’s bracket by defeating John Faleris of South Lyon 229-155, top qualifier Dan Mytty of Livonia 246-211 before falling into the loser’s bracket with a loss to Capaldi 206-196. Once in the loser’s bracket he beat Terry Bialkowski of Windsor 290-137 and Jim Lauricella of Sterling Heights 201-194 before falling to Fryer 215-203 to end his run.
Lauricella qualified seventh with 1,096 and averaged 219.7 for 10 tournament games. In match play he beat Nick Cipiti of Clinton Township 224-156 and Larry Franz of Redford 239-214 before falling to Fryer 215-209. In the loser’s bracket he defeated Dan Mayer of Waterford Township 235-201 before ending his day with the loss to Scantamburlo.
Mytty led the field of 67 with a five-game total of 1,156. John Lingenfelter of Center Line had the top game during qualifying with 298 and Mytty and Scantamburlo the top game in match play with 290.
Other local seniors cashing included Mayer for $250, Horowitz for $175 and Faleris $150.
William Haynes of Rochester Hills won the special competition to non-qualifiers over the age of 70 with a 245-198 win over John Staricha of Highland. Haynes took home $175 and Staricha $150 for their efforts. Dennis O’Neill of Rochester Hills also cashed for $100.

MDUSBC JUNIOR MASTERS
Joshua Chaney of Rochester Hills prevailed in the boy’s division and Nicole Mikaelian of Macomb won the girl’s division of the Metro Detroit USBC Association Junior Masters at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park.
Chaney defeated Shawn Bibee of Fair Haven 245-182 to win the boy’s division. Both earned spots in the national finals of the USBC Junior Gold Championships in July 2012 in Indianapolis
Mikaelian beat Stephanie Penxa of Romeo 186-122 to capture the girl’s division. Mikaelian also earned a spot in the Junior Gold Championships.
Bibee was the top qualifier among the boys with a six-game total of 1,174. Chaney qualified second with 1,151.
Mikaelian was the top girl’s qualifier with 1,059, while Penxa qualified second with 1,042.
The boy’s stepladder finals began with Charles Zelechowski of Warren beating Andrew Anderson of Holly 233-171. Zelechowski then defeated Kevin Craft of Shelby Township 158-143. Chaney beat Zelechowski 197-148 to advance to the championship match.
The girl’s stepladder finals kicked off with Ashley Brancato of St. Clair Shores beating Sara Uelman of Ferndale 202-140. Penxa then beat Brancato 160-153 en route to the finals.

Oczepek Wins Inaugural Women's Series Event

MDUSBC WOMEN’S SERIES
Julie Oczepek of Reese won the inaugural Metro Detroit USBC Association (MDUSBC) Rip 10 Entertainment Women’s Series event on Sunday with a 246-157 triumph over Michelle Ewald of Clinton Township at Shelby Lanes in Shelby Township. Oczepek took home the top prize of $500, while Ewald settled for $250.
Oczepek qualified 15th in the field of 47 with a four-game total of 836. Her qualifying total included a final game of 249 to earn the next to the last spot in the single-game single-elimination match play.
Once in match play she dispatched Nicole Edwards of Sterling Heights 222-212, Christine Wissinger of Clinton Township 224-184 and Lauren Roberts of Hazel Park 213-190 en route to the championship match.
Ewald qualified ninth with 860. Her victories in match play included wins over Audrea Edwards of Farmington 256-221, top qualified Lisa Bishop of Belleville 245-205 and Novella Daniels of Detroit 246-204.
Local bowlers who cashed were Lauren Roberts of Hazel Park for $125 and Audrea Edwards of Farmington $50.

Juszczyk Wins First MMBA Title

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS
George Juszczyk of Dearborn Heights won his first Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a thrilling 215-213 triumph over top seed Craig Nidiffer of Trenton at Bay Lanes in Bay City. Juszczyk took home $1,000 and Nidiffer $700.
Juszczyk, qualified second for the stepladder finals, defeated Val Sherlock of Flint 242-162 to advance to the championship match.
Nidiffer was attempting to tie the record for three tournament wins in a row, but fell short. He had the top qualifying six-game score of 1,327 and held on to the top spot in the semi-final round.
Earlier in the stepladder finals Sherlock beat Ray Eddy of Saginaw 205-203 and Mason Brantley of Detroit 223-215. Sherlock earned $500, Brantley $400 and Eddy $300 for their efforts.
Chris Steward of Clawson was the top Oakland County keglers for $165 followed by Bob Chamberlain Jr. of Holly $160.
The next MMBA event will be the Championship Tournament on Nov. 19 at Cherry Hill Lanes in Dearborn Heights.

MDUSBC WOMEN’S SERIES
The Metro Detroit USBC Association and Rip 10 Entertainment proudly announce the creation of the MDUSBC Women’s Series, a series of six scratch events for women bowlers during the 2011-12 season.
The series will kickoff on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Shelby Lanes in Utica. Qualifying will begin at 10 a.m. followed by one-game single elimination match play to determine a winner.
Four games of qualifying will determine match play contestants on a ratio of one in three advancing with a minimum of eight qualifiers. It is anticipated that the competition will conclude by 2 p.m.
Top prize in each event will be $500, based on 24 entries, and all match play qualifiers will cash. The entry fee is $35.
A season long “cup” competition will pay $1,000 to the top point getter. All competitors will receive points in each event they compete in, based on their final placing. The top 15 players in the MDUSBC / Rip 10 Cup standings will cash.
Van Dyke Bowl in Sterling Heights will also host events during the series. Other series dates are Dec. 18, 2011; Jan. 15, 2012; March 18, 2012; April 22, 2012 and May 6, 2012. The presenters are committed to operating the six events with no cancellations.

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS
George Juszczyk of Dearborn Heights won his first Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a thrilling 215-213 triumph over top seed Craig Nidiffer of Trenton at Bay Lanes in Bay City. Juszczyk took home $1,000 and Nidiffer $700.
Juszczyk, qualified second for the stepladder finals, defeated Val Sherlock of Flint 242-162 to advance to the championship match.
Nidiffer was attempting to tie the record for three tournament wins in a row, but fell short. He had the top qualifying six-game score of 1,327 and held on to the top spot in the semi-final round.
Earlier in the stepladder finals Sherlock beat Ray Eddy of Saginaw 205-203 and Mason Brantley of Detroit 223-215. Sherlock earned $500, Brantley $400 and Eddy $300 for their efforts.
Chris Steward of Clawson was the top Oakland County keglers for $165 followed by Bob Chamberlain Jr. of Holly $160.
The next MMBA event will be the Championship Tournament on Nov. 19 at Cherry Hill Lanes in Dearborn Heights.

MDUSBC WOMEN’S SERIES
The Metro Detroit USBC Association and Rip 10 Entertainment proudly announce the creation of the MDUSBC Women’s Series, a series of six scratch events for women bowlers during the 2011-12 season.
The series will kickoff on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Shelby Lanes in Utica. Qualifying will begin at 10 a.m. followed by one-game single elimination match play to determine a winner.
Four games of qualifying will determine match play contestants on a ratio of one in three advancing with a minimum of eight qualifiers. It is anticipated that the competition will conclude by 2 p.m.
Top prize in each event will be $500, based on 24 entries, and all match play qualifiers will cash. The entry fee is $35.
A season long “cup” competition will pay $1,000 to the top point getter. All competitors will receive points in each event they compete in, based on their final placing. The top 15 players in the MDUSBC / Rip 10 Cup standings will cash.
Van Dyke Bowl in Sterling Heights will also host events during the series. Other series dates are Dec. 18, 2011; Jan. 15, 2012; March 18, 2012; April 22, 2012 and May 6, 2012. The presenters are committed to operating the six events with no cancellations.
