Juszczyk Wins First MMBA Title

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

George Juszczyk of Dearborn Heights won his first Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a thrilling 215-213 triumph over top seed Craig Nidiffer of Trenton at Bay Lanes in Bay City. Juszczyk took home $1,000 and Nidiffer $700.

Juszczyk, qualified second for the stepladder finals, defeated Val Sherlock of Flint 242-162 to advance to the championship match.

Nidiffer was attempting to tie the record for three tournament wins in a row, but fell short. He had the top qualifying six-game score of 1,327 and held on to the top spot in the semi-final round.

Earlier in the stepladder finals Sherlock beat Ray Eddy of Saginaw 205-203 and Mason Brantley of Detroit 223-215. Sherlock earned $500, Brantley $400 and Eddy $300 for their efforts.

Chris Steward of Clawson was the top Oakland County keglers for $165 followed by Bob Chamberlain Jr. of Holly $160.

The next MMBA event will be the Championship Tournament on Nov. 19 at Cherry Hill Lanes in Dearborn Heights.

MDUSBC WOMEN’S SERIES

The Metro Detroit USBC Association and Rip 10 Entertainment proudly announce the creation of the MDUSBC Women’s Series, a series of six scratch events for women bowlers during the 2011-12 season.

The series will kickoff on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Shelby Lanes in Utica. Qualifying will begin at 10 a.m. followed by one-game single elimination match play to determine a winner.

Four games of qualifying will determine match play contestants on a ratio of one in three advancing with a minimum of eight qualifiers. It is anticipated that the competition will conclude by 2 p.m.

Top prize in each event will be $500, based on 24 entries, and all match play qualifiers will cash. The entry fee is $35.

A season long “cup” competition will pay $1,000 to the top point getter. All competitors will receive points in each event they compete in, based on their final placing. The top 15 players in the MDUSBC / Rip 10 Cup standings will cash.

Van Dyke Bowl in Sterling Heights will also host events during the series. Other series dates are Dec. 18, 2011; Jan. 15, 2012; March 18, 2012; April 22, 2012 and May 6, 2012. The presenters are committed to operating the six events with no cancellations.

Women's Series to Debut

MDUSBC WOMEN’S SERIES

The Metro Detroit USBC Association and Rip 10 Entertainment proudly announce the creation of the MDUSBC Women’s Series, a series of six scratch events for women bowlers during the 2011-12 season.

Johnson Wins First NSBA Title

NATIONAL SENIOR BOWLING ASSOCIATION

Gerald Johnson of Riverview not only led qualifying but charged all the way through match play and defeated Steve Jakubowski of Temperance 211-200 to win the National Senior Bowling Association event at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights.

After qualifying first he defeated Dan Mytty of Livonia 244-220, Dick Selgo of Archbold, Ohio 195-194 and Larry Franz of Redford 222-212 to advance to the championship match. Johnson took home the top prize of $1,000.

Jakubowski qualified third and in match play beat Dave Tulak of Taylor 255-207, Joe Krajenke of Clinton Township 214-178 and Dan Mayer of Waterford Township 226-214. Jakubowski earned $500.

Krajenke also had the top single game with 300.


Local cashers were Mayer for $200 and Kevin Scott of Ferndale for $90.
