Edwards Wins First MMBA Title

May 27, 2011

By: Mark Martin

BUDWEISER MICHIGAN MAJORS

Jeff Edwards of Sterling Heights won his first Budweiser Michigan Majors title with a 225-187 triumph over top seed Lonnie Jones of Ann Arbor at Mayflower Lanes in Redford.

Edwards was seeded third for the stepladder finals and beat Pete Brown of Holt 244-177 and Doug Mazurco of Brownstown 242-182 en route to the championship match. Edward took home the top prize of $1,000.

“This was a tough course and I just wanted to make all my spares.”, said Edwards. “I switched balls and line in the fifth game of qualifying. Everything fell into place and I started to carry strikes. It’s a great thrill to win that first title.”

Jones, who has made the finals 18 times, failed to get the job done finishing as runner up for the second time. Jones cashed for $550 still seeking his first title.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever win a title. I want one so bad.”, Jones said dejectedly.

Top Oakland County finishers were Keith Kingston of Farmington Hills for $130 and Mike Weed of Wixom $120.

The next MMBA event will be the Doubles Championship on June 4 at Lodge Lanes in Belleville.
